Brazil I 1962-1963
This photographic sequence represents some of the activities and places visited during our reunion at Valle Crucis, North Carolina. Not every activity and participants may have been photographed.
Valle Crucis is a rural community, near Boone, North Carolina. Our Fortieth Anniversary Reunion took place at the Valle Crucis Conference Center. The Valle Crucis Conference Center is located in the historic Mission School, featuring buildings dating from the late 19th Century and early 20th Century, nearly all of which are on the National Historic Register.
Every group activities, reunions and memorial religious service were held at the Center reunions facilities and chapel.
"The Valle Crucis Conference Center overlooks a peaceful, rural valley in the Blue Ridge Mountains. We offer our ministry of hospitality to a diverse range of church and non-profit groups from around the Southeast. Many groups say being at Valle Crucis feels like coming home. Maybe it is our informal and inspirational setting, where groups easily build community, or perhaps it is our popular homestyle meals."
This collection of photographs, taken by me at different events, shows our meetings and many of the places visited during our stay. One of the most memorable event was gathering at the Francis and Sybil home, where we had our final activity with a wonderful get together and cook-out.
This reunion was very important and meaningful because our guidance staff members were present to share their anecdotes and memories of their time with the Brazil I 4-S Project. They were George Coleman and his wife Peggy, Director, Peace Corps in Brazil; Warren Schmidt and his wife Marge, Coordinator, 4-H Peace Corps Projects, National 4-H Foundation; and Francis Pressly and his wife Sybil, Director, Peace Corps 4-H Projects, Brazil.
Among the volunteers attending a will try to mention those I can recognize and recall their names by the photographs, many others, especially those from other projects.

Many of these fellow Returned Peace Corps Volunteers (RPCV) attended with their spouses. As can be appreciated in the photographs, this can be considered the most or one of the most attended reunions. The RPCV present from
Brazil I to Brazil VI was impressive, the spouses of many and relatives of many. The attendees came from every cardinal point of the United States and Puerto Rico. As every reunion we have had since the first one, each individual paid the expenses incurred, such as, transportation, accommodation, meals, tickets to paid activities, and others.
