PARA MELHOR SERVIR

We came to Brazil “to serve”' the Brazilian Association for Rural Credit and Assistance (ABCAR) and its affiliates. ABCAR served as the intermediary between its affiliates and the Peace Corps. After our acquaintance with the personnel in ABCAR, our close association with their affiliates continued through our local counterparts and Brazilian state and regional supervisors. With our counterparts we learned and worked with the Brazilian 4-S program.

Many counterparts, already enthusiastic about 4-S work, joined with the volunteers to strengthen and expand the program. Others were not so convinced about the 4-S program and too we needed to prove that 4-S work could be successful and of value to the Brazilian rural community.
